Established in 1954 as Brighton & Worthing Branch of the British Sub-Aqua Club, we were one of the first BSAC branches and one of the oldest still in existence, having celebrated our 70th anniversary in 2024. Once based in Brighton, we are now based in Shoreham-By-Sea at the Sussex Yacht Club (SYC), giving easy access via the A27 and the train station to divers across Sussex, with members from Bognor Regis, Worthing, Brighton, Falmer, Mid Sussex and Newhaven. Since joining forces with SYC in 1999, much integration has taken place, with many divers now enjoying sailing and many sailors having taken the plunge to investigate the world beneath their boats.
We have an 8 metre club RHIB moored year round here at SYC which we take on trips to dive around the UK, space for storage of kit and an all-important bar and restaurant on site for diver debriefs! There is also free parking as well as changing and shower facilities. Unlike many other clubs in the area, we also have our very own air compressor which gives our club members access to unlimited free air fills, as well as Nitrox and Trimix, plus oxygen for decompression gasses and rebreather users.
Diving takes place throughout the year, weather permitting. A lot of diving takes place locally between Beachy Head and Selsey Bill, with around 200 sites plotted within a 25 mile radius of the clubhouse. Many locations around the British coast have been diveed, from Cornwall to the Orkney Islands. Expeditions to coral reefs in the Red Sea, Kenya, the Caribbean, South Africa, and Papua New Guinea are also made throughout the year.
BSAC recognises the diving qualifications awarded by other diving organisation and Members can choose to maintain their existing qualifications or transfer to the equivalent BSAC grade. Divers with qualifications from PADI, SAA, IANTD and other agencies are more than welcome.
We get together every Wednesday evening from 8:30pm at the Sussex Yacht Club bar upstairs , come along and meet us for a drink! We’re a friendly bunch and love meeting new people!
